WESAK CELEBRATIONS AT SRILANKARAMAYA IN BRISBANE
Sri Lankarama Mahaviharaya in Brisbane celebrated Wesak, 2561 with serenity and joy. This event took place over the last weekend under the guidance of the Chief Incumbent of the Monastery, Most Ven. Wattegama Dhammawasa Nayaka Maha Thero and the resident monks. Over 150 adults undertook the observance of eight precepts and over 80 students participated in the student Atasil program.
The following evening was serenely decorated with 200 beautiful hand made lanterns around the Monastery. The adults and students of the Yasodhara Dhamma and Sinhala School, Joined the Bakthi Geetha, the Buddhist devotional songs highlighting the sprite of Wesak in a splendid manner.
A newly constructed Meditation Walking Path (Sakman Maluwa) was offered to the monastics on this Wesak day.
Atavisi Buddha Puja offerings were made soon after and the opening of a new Buddha Statue, depicting the Vagrasanaya (Diamond Throne of the Buddha) of Buddhagaya took place next. This was opened to the public, in the shrine room of Sangavasaya. The Buddha relics were enshrined in the lotus chamber of the Buddha statue (karaduwa).
A detailed recollection of the Buddha qualities, Buddhanussathi Meditation session was conducted to the devotees by our Most Venerable Wattegama Dhammawasa Nayaka Thero, who depicted an atmosphere of a living Buddha. The weekend was fully devoted to the teachings of our great teacher, the Supremely Enlightened Buddha who showed us the path to peace and happiness.
May all beings everywhere find peace and happiness through the Noble Teachings and Blessings of the Buddha!
