LOVING-KINDNESS MEDITATION Part - 1

METTA MEDITATION OR LOVING KINDNESS MEDITATION Part - 1

Cultivate Metta and Make the Heart Grow  Loving- kindness, as a feeling in one’s heart, is an absolute essential for concentration because it creates peace and calmness in the mind. If that’s lacking, more loving- kindness meditation at the beginning of each meditation session may be helpful in order to cultivate lovingness within yourself.
The Lord Buddha said that the practice of loving kindness is very necessary for us because it has a social dimension. Metta means friendliness, the loving-kindness you show your friends. Metta shows you how we can develop loving-kindness not only to your friends and immediate circle, your loved ones and your family, but to the entire world.  In the Metta sutta the Buddha shows us how you can expand this boundless love to the entire world of living beings. So Metta has infinite quality. Metta could be spread to the entire world of living beings, animals, human beings and non- human beings.
Loving-kindness meditation strengthens the mind and enables to control our emotions when they are disturbed by negative thoughts and feelings such as, pride, anger, jealousy and hatred.

The Buddha spoke about eleven benefits that come from Loving-kindness;
  1. One sleeps in comfort
  2. One wakes in comfort
  3. One dreams no evil dreams
  4. One is dear to human beings
  5. One is dear to non-human beings
  6. The Gods guard you
  7. No fire or poison or weapon harms one
  8. One’s mind can quickly be concentrated
  9. The expression of one’s  face  is serene
  10. One dies not falling into confusion
  11. If one attends Janas, one will pass to the world of  High Divinity, to the Brahma World
